Language is an imperfect tool of communication, but Copeland James is trying their best to bridge the gap. Through music, this 23-year-old Midwestern folk pop songwriter explores the space between what we want to say and what ends up coming out. "It's so easy to feel like you're sharing too much, or too little," they say. "I've always struggled with that balance. Songwriting is a way for me to sit with a thought long enough that I can express it just the way it felt."
Earnest without being naïve, Copeland James ponders the complexity of loving deeply — and not just romantically — while knowing this puts their heart at risk. Their wistful melodies and soaring piano and string accompaniments complement introspective lyrics at every turn.
